10m expectations

Once, long time ago....
After reading some very nice reports about WSPR on 10 meter I decided to monitor for a few days. But my expectations were too high. Propagation was not as good as the days before I was monitoring. Although I was reported at 4Z4TJ (Israel) and OY1OF (Faroer Isl.) with my 1 Watt on the vertical. Receiving went better I reported V53ARC, VK4YEH, PU2MWD,  FR1GZ and  VK6TQ as DX and a few other Dutch and European stations as well most of them TX with 2-5 Watt. Tomorrow starts a 12 meter QRP activity for 2 days. I don't have too much expectations this time but will try with 500mW, you never know...

73, Bas

Bas, that's the magic with 10 meters. You just never know. 100 watts or 1 watt, if the band is not there, it's not there but at least you had a glimmer of hope! Good luck with the 500mw on 12!

Hi Bas, I said the same thing when I tried 500mw's during the last contest. It seemed to work very well for me but then the solar activity was at an all time high. Then there is the fact that during contests there are lots of listening ears as well. Do let us know how it goes.

@Phil, well you are right but this is not the best time for 10m/12m. I just missed the fun and hoped for some more. Better luck next time.

@Mike, the high solar activity was that weekend there at the right time. Normally you could not get that far with 500mW. So, that tells us all that big antennas are not always needed. We all depend on good propagation. And that's something we cannot buy...

Hello Bas,

Propagation, activity and than antenne.
In any contest there is much steel and aluminium and Excellent Ears, on the other side, in the air.
This weekend I made 42 QRPp QSO's (less than 1 watt) of a total of abt 160 QRP QSO's in the UBA CW contest.
I like this DX type of contests for their Golden oppotunities. hi
